Patty Zevallos
Drawing and Painting
Patty has been working in media writing and production, including illustration, since 1978. She studied Radio/TV/Motion Pictures in college while working summers as a reporter for an arts newspaper. She then wrote and directed a local television show and radio productions. After moving to the Washington, DC area in 1984, Patty wrote and produced print and broadcast ads for advertising agencies.
She became a freelancer for a wide variety of clients, including those in engineering and computer hardware, and often did graphic design and illustration. She was the production manager of a newspaper, and then handled projects for federal agencies, nonprofits, e-commerce, and software companies. Patty helped produce web sites and print publications for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Department of Defense, Environmental Protection Agency, USAID, and the Judicial Branch. She also wrote, designed, and produced web sites for small businesses.
During this time, Patty often taught classes in her field and created instructional materials for children and adults. Starting in 2005, she taught after school classes at neighborhood elementary schools, including in art.
Patty is very excited about spreading the word about the art techniques and media production skills she has researched and used for years. Sometimes she is humbled by how fast her students catch on to what took her forever to figure out, but she figures that means she is doing a good job.
