Explore the incredible diversity of life on Earth! Join us on an exciting journey through the animal kingdom, from simple bacteria and worms to complex mammals! In this class, students will investigate how different types of animals are organized into major groups called phyla. Students will explore fascinating creatures, from soft-bodied flatworms to vertebrates with brains, and learn what makes each group unique. This class will include hands-on activities, habitat projects, and creative projects. Students will use a dissection microscope as we observe a number of live animals including Planaria (flatworms) and Hydra. We will also observe earthworms, beetles, and others. Through our exploration, activities, and discussions, students will gain a deeper understanding of how animals are classified.
Students must be able to work independently with a microscope and small lab equipment such as pipettes and slides.
