Junior Academy (Grades K-2)
This is a one-day per week, 4.5-hour drop-off program for students that runs from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. The parent is NOT required to stay on campus during this time. All teachers have had a background check completed and are fully vaccinated. We cover literature, art, history, and science with the students. They eat a home-packed nut-free lunch and have lots of outside recess time. We run this program on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. You choose the day that works best for you. Students are dropped off in our kiss-and-ride line and picked up at the end of the day in the same manner. Caregivers never need to leave their car!
- Literature
- In the Jr. Academy Literature Class, we will be reading many fun picture books to learn about story elements in literature. We will discuss, sing, and do various activities to better understand story elements like character, setting, plot, problem, and solution. We will focus on concepts found in each story such as the author, and illustrator, identifying the beginning, middle, and end of a story, as well as the theme, point of view, vocabulary, and comprehension questions specific to each story. This will be a very interactive class with hands-on projects and student participation.
- Science – Earth Science
- This year we will explore our Earth’s mysteries. Join us on this journey to uncover the mysteries of our dynamic planet! We will delve into a variety of fascinating topics, starting with the geologic timeline, fossils and dinosaurs. Other units will include the layers of the Earth, tectonic plates, mountain formation, faults and earthquakes, natural disasters, rocks and minerals, the water cycle, renewable and nonrenewable resources, recycling, botany, and more. Get ready to become Earth Explorers and discover the incredible world beneath our feet!
- Art
- This year, we will be having fun focusing on basic art elements such as colors, shapes, texture, and lines. Students will have the opportunity to experience the gooey, sticky, sensory feeling of finger paints, clay, various textures of nature, and the inspiration that comes with using scissors, crayons, watercolors, paints, and paper without any required end result. This provides your child with the path to exploration, cognitive learning, and creativity. Be sure to bring a smock!
- Journey From Past to Present
- Come along on a creative journey to discover people and places of the past and present. We will fly across the globe to experience the art, culture, history, and geography of ancient civilizations as well as those of today. We’ll do this through a variety of art media, games, imagination, and fun!
